Candidate's Corner: Greenfield Offers Up Platform

E-mail Print PDF

greenfield_cand_wkshpMeaford Councillor and candidate for Deputy Mayor in the upcoming municipal election Harley Greenfield, has sent along a bullet-point overview of his election platform:

*Stay the course with our 5 year Financial Strategy. NO new expenses, NO additional goals. Guarantee the plan works so our taxes can eventually decrease.

*Waste Water Treatment Plant in urban area. We know new or expanded plant is required in future. Where? When? How much?  We need a definite plan in place.

*Place a hiring freeze on additional employees. Our complement is full. Replacing existing employees at the time of retirement, or resignation, should also be examined.

*Find a location for new Library for Town of Meaford and former St. Vincent residents.

*Complete new contract services for former Sydenham through the Owen Sound North Grey Union Public Library.

*Establish an in depth roads/bridges maintenance/reconstruction plan and follow. We are lagging behind on this issue.

*Reach out to our rural residents and encourage them to be more involved in our municipal affairs. If desired, create a ‘rural affairs committee’ to focus on rural problems and bring them to Council.

*Ensure more community events and activity at Meaford Hall.

*Bring back a ‘summer theatre’ schedule to the Hall.

*Establish a much needed ‘Community Doggy Park’.

*Explore methods for more youth involvement/activity in area.

*Plan on providing All our recreational areas(rural and urban) with safe, approved playground equipment for children in near future.

*Continue the ‘greening objectives’ planned for Meaford Harbour area. Create a more ‘family’ environment.

*Encourage more vendors and customers to continue successful Farmers’ Market.

*Promote more conversation between Council members and ALL employees.

*Take public and Council meetings on a regular schedule to Woodford or Bognor Halls.
