My family and I have lived in Meaford for the past 11 years and have fallen in love with one of the most wonderful places in the world, Meaford. I am a married father of three wonderful children who love Meaford very deeply.

So, here I am, new to the race and being asked by several people what my political platform is. To be honest there are only a few things that I am sure of and I am investigating several other ideas that I would like to see implemented but need to check to see if they are feasible, if there are other legal reasons why they cannot be done etc and so I am reserving my thoughts on those items at this time.
I believe in our community and the spirit of Meaford, we have a town full of people who love being here, who love telling people where they live, and love to commit themselves to making Meaford one of the most unique and most beautiful places to live and grow. That being said, there are always issues to be handled and improvements to be made and the following are a few of the things that I would like to help implement as a representative of you, the neighbour, the voter, the taxpayer.
Please note these are not listed in order of importance
1) I would like to see a dedicated year round leash-less dog park for all of the pet owners. We are grateful for the use of Memorial Park each and every year during the off season but I think it is time to give a park to the numerous pet owners out there.
2) Downtown beautification and revitalization through enforcement of sign removal bylaws for non-active businesses as well as more suitable refuse/recycling/compost containers. Promotion of our downtown as a place to experience.
3) Investigate further activities for the youth in our area by establishing a youth committee or task group composed of the young people themselves as well as other members of the community.
4) Increased community events to celebrate the beautiful community we live in, street festivals, a winter festival, dances, events in the park etc. Increased events at the Hall and promotion of the Hall for community use.
5) Beautification and revitalization of the Harbour through green-scaping, adding a playground for kids, possible retail locations.
6) Locate and move library to a permanent new home, accessible to all.
7) Review efficiencies and determine if improvements/cost savings could be realized.
8) Promotion of Meaford as a year round destination for tourists/visitors.
9) Attraction of new business/industry to Meaford and surrounding area.
10) Continued support and promotion of the Meaford Farmer's Market to attract new vendors and provide an opportunity for growth of the market.
There are several other points I have and as previously stated if after review are reasonable and feasible I will certainly add them to my platform. There is also the obvious point of trying to keep the taxes at a reasonable level for all in the community but I also realize that periodic increases are often unavoidable and I refuse to sit here and even think that an increase may not happen while I represent you, my community. I want to encourage all of you to contact me, discuss your concerns, ask your questions and challenge me to be the best Councillor I can be for Meaford.
