I am Jim McPherson and I am running for Mayor.
I have over 20 years of experience in business, mostly in property and land development. 7 years ago my wife, Karen and I came to Meaford to raise a family and start a business.
In my business time, my time on Council and my community involvement many of you have become my friends and many of you are my supporters.
In conversations I have learned what you want in this community and I want many of the things you do.
There are three key issues that led me here tonight. Fiscal management, risk management and process. That is taxes, spending troubles and how we do things.
I believe taxes are too high. And I am prepared to do something about that. Business owners and family members know that if you don’t have the money, you don’t spend it.
I believe that when you overspend, you should cut back. This hasn’t happened.
I believe we avoid risky and divisive lawsuits.
I believe we are a big family and we can work out our differences without costly court battles.
I believe in proper clear accounting, not creative accounting.
I believe that you have the right to know everything that’s going on in your municipal government.
I believe in competitive bids for all projects, NO EXCEPTIONS
I believe we need to be accountable and we work for you the tax payer.
I believe in an open and accessible Council.
I believe in team building. And it’s not an exclusive club. You the taxpayer are part of the team.
Now I am going to tell you what I don’t believe. And that is one thing. I don’t believe in 4 more years of the same.
We need a Fresh Start and with you as part of my team we can work together to do that.
