osattackatmcs2012- “It’s the good ole hockey game – the best game you can name.  And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game!”  On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, MCS had some special guests, Daniel Catenacci and Kyle Hope from the Owen Sound Attack.

The reason for their visit was to promote awareness of bullying, and talk about what to do if a student is being bullied.  Each of the hockey players talked about a time in their lives when they were picked on in school, and how they handled it.  This program hopes to encourage kids to be positive citizens, and make good choices at school, and in the community.  Each week a student is awarded two Attack tickets for positive behaviour.

This program has great support.  The Meaford Kiwanis Club and the Owen Sound Attack have “adopted” MCS for this program.  Kiwanis member Gord Breadner, OPP Officer Bob Sewell, and Mrs. Gail Lambe help to organize it.  Each year Attack players visit area schools, but MCS in only one of five where Attack tickets are sponsored.

When the kids started to play floor hockey against the Attack players, everyone started cheering for either the Attack or MCS players.  It was loud!  The grade 4/5 students had posters saying “Go Attack Go”.  The grades 1, 2, and 3 kids sang “The Hockey Song” by Stompin’ Tom Connors.  It was great fun … and then some teachers played the Attack.  They got beat – badly! (Even though Mr. Kulakowski tried his hardest!)

Finally, we would like to say thank you to the Attack and players, Daniel Catanacci and Kyle Hope, and thanks to the Meaford Kiwanis club and Mr. Gord Breadner.  Mrs. Lambe and Officer Sewell also deserve a big thank you.  We hope that this program continues next year!  Go Attack Go!!
