Frustration With Unruly Fishermen

Dear Editor,

Having grown up in Meaford in the 60's and 70's, we returned to a fixer-upper on Bayfield Street 15 years ago to be among old friends, and are re-building the house to be here permanently. We are between the children's playground and beach at Raper's Park and the children's area of McCarroll Park and the boat ramp beach across the road. This location is a great attraction for our children and grandchildren, and our large extended family who like to join us here for holidays.  The waterfront park is a draw for tourists and for young families considering Meaford as a place to live.

We are spending a lot of our savings on our house, with more than 95% of the expenditure on labour and supplies sourced within a 30-minute drive from town. Our neighbours are also fixing up their houses. These expenditures increase the attraction of Meaford, but the activities on Municipal property across the street do not.

Coins Are Legal Tender Too

Editor,

The following appeared in the bulletin of my church for the Christmas Eve Service 2017:

Quote:

Offering Notice

Due to the inability of the ATM to accept coins, and the bank charging for depositing coins, we are asking that you please refrain from including coins in your offering when at all possible. Your co-operation in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

To say I was stunned, does not begin to cover my reaction.

Reader Takes TMI Editor to Task

Dear Editor,

A couple of your editorials the last few weeks are very disturbing to a majority of taxpayers in the Municipality.

First you defended the bloated cost of the new library project by saying, “The Community supports the plan so I accept it.” I do not believe the Community accepts this particular project. As per the SDR survey there are 19 communities in the Municipality and I believe only one community (the town) is for this project and not everyone in town is on board with spending close to $5.5 million on a non-core infrastructure asset.

It took us rural folk four years of badgering our council to get a pothole-filled main road in Sydenham (Bayshore-Leith to Concession 23) repaved. This cost about $700,000. In a matter of weeks our council, with the support of one community in our municipality, decided to spend $1.5 million on the Foodland building without knowing the full costs and not offering a full business plan.
