Recently there have been a few letters in the Owen Sound Sun Times regurgitating again the old hurts instigated by the amalgamation of Sydenham, St Vincent and Meaford.
In my view, it is time to accept that we are one and learn to live with it.
The first job of Meaford Council should not be cutting taxes but rather it should be getting everything up and running properly.
To use an analogy, if I want to eat properly it is going to cost me. However, once I am eating properly, I can start to concentrate on how to do so less expensively.
It does not help to say we don't really need to eat properly or that we didn't used to eat properly so we shouldn't have to do that now.
Just saying that Meaford needs to reduce taxes does not help taxpayers to understand the complexities of running a municipality and the choices that have to be made.
