Editor,
As a citizen of the Municipality of Meaford, I am very proud of Meaford Hall and the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation. It often seems that their work goes unnoticed and unappreciated. Their fiercest critics are people who do not frequent the events in the Hall, or care about the Foundation's activities.
Last Saturday night I was privileged to be one of a full house audience completely enthralled by the performance of "Dala". People from all walks of life were present, but for me , the exciting part was to see that the largest percentage in the house were young people, many of whom had travelled a distance to come to Meaford Hall.
Meaford Hall has steadily outgrown its earlier growing pains. There is a different feeling in 2010. It is a feeling of success. The efficient staff radiates confidence, and the programme of events shows diversity and thoughtful professionalism.
Under Barb Clumpus' leadership, the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation has contributed greatly to the success of Meaford Hall Memories of the Riverside Town and Country Festivals, the annual Christmas Festival, MIFF, the Murder Mystery dinner held at the harbour pavilion are examples of the type of activities sponsored by the Foundation.
The recent bursary set up in honour of Ivan and Margaret Franklin is a lasting testimony to the interest and compassion extended by the Foundation to worthy students interested in studying the arts.
Meaford Hall is a success story. Thanks to Paul Osborn, Susan Lake, the staff of Meaford Hall , and to the tireless support of Barb Clumpus and the members of the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation, the Municipality of Meaford has a GEM that is the envy of the surrounding district. Let us continue to build on its strengths !
Yours truly,
Marjorie Davison, Meaford
