Dear Editor,
I totally agree with your stance on the hot dog cart and am very dismayed at Councillor McPherson's attitude towards it. You make a good point about personal choices and democracy. Unfortunately, Meaford has a pretty poor record in these areas.
On Monday, the Council will be asked to approve the CAO's recommendations which he has made after receiving the Citizen's Task Force report. Many hours of were spent by volunteers hand -picked by Mr. Miele in a supposed effort to bring a wide variety of skill sets, interests and viewpoints to the table. After 6 months of meeting and endless rewrites and compromises the remaining Task Force members were able to sign off on a report that we could be proud of.
I believe that Mr. Miele's recommendations are based on his own and a minority opinion that, in hindsight to me at least, were foregone conclusions. He has already concluded that the Council and staff fully support his views, so why bother with the"democratic" process at all?
Status quo reigns, everything is great, let's get on with our lives. We have a ruling clique who clearly know what's best for all.
I'm going to get a hot dog now!
Kate Belec, Meaford
