Dear Editor,
I have some issues with the letter submitted by Kara Smith on the subject of our new Garbage pick-up schedule, and hope you will allow me to voice them.
First , I applaud Ms Smith in her efforts to reduce her garbage , I like the fact that she recycles and composts, that her garbage will soon be one bag a month.
However why do people have this mentality that just because a system works for them that it will work for all ?
What about those who do not have a garage (not the best place to store garbage anyway) and what about those with no yard or space for a composter or perhaps don't have the funds to buy one, sometimes for some in this community , its a struggle to buy food let alone a green cone.... and then where would they put it , on a balcony perhaps or by the side of the road....
Most people do have their own best interests at heart and obviously its good to recycle ,but for others its impossible. Doesn't mean they don"t care just circumstances dictate .
Also its not just babies that contribute to diapers in the landfill what about adults.... often with other health issues , how and what do they do? Two weeks of diapers in a garage (or in a shed or on a balcony) does not a pleasant odour make.
The fact is , people do what they can do, garbage is an unpleasant side effect of life, and everyone's needs need to be met with everyone's needs taken into consideration , not just those who can and do own a garage and composter....... which I do.
Thank you,
Sheila Chapman, Meaford
