Dear Editor,
To: The Meaford Council and Administation Officers
Subject: Please Do Not Abandon the Georgian Beach Road Issue
I originally supported that Meaford Council support the Bylaw stating there was a Road allowance established in the mid 1800's and that the few NEW property owners who had their lawyers indicate on their deeds that they owned to the waterfront was a legal error on their lawyers part who must have failed to check the St Vincent Township Bylaw records properly.
We are not directly affected by this unfortunate situation; as we have lived on our property for over 34 years and have a municipal Road which is maintained by the municipality year round as we paid to have a local improvement done by St Vincent Township for our Plan 350 and we are lot 27.
Best thing we ever did!
We are horrified that Council would now consider backing off on this matter when it should and must be properly continued to the actual Court hearing and final judgement.
Yes we have spent many dollars in legal fees etc to protect the Bylaw and those directly affected; however it is unacceptable that Council would abandon their valid case and face huge law suits by a small few who disregard our laws and will end up costing all Meaford Taxpayers thousands of dollars and possibly more. Please see it through to the end.
We strongly urge all council members and senior administration to continue on to the final court hearing which is the proper thing to do.
The Road allowance should be maintained as stated in the Bylaw whether or not an actual municipal road is ever established. It will provide a wonderful walking path for many local area residents to enjoy the wonderful waterfront areas that we have in the Meafod area.
People have the legal right to use the road allowance for walking and using same as they have done for many years.
Please support the proper action which is to proceed to a proper legal Court decision and also file claims against those residents and the lawyers who filed land documents that were flawed.
Please do not give in to a small few who do not respect our municipal laws and wish to restrict legal access to those who are entitled to use the allowance by municipal law.
Shirley & Arthur Docherty, Meaford
