Wind Turbines and Election Candidates

E-mail Print PDF

Editor,

After reading the article by Roberta Avery on 'Wind Turbines' in the Georgian Bay area and the article by the Editor of the very interesting magazine 'On The Bay', I found myself rather disgusted to say the least, with Mayor, Francis Richardson of the Municipality of Meaford with his comments in the article.

He lives in the Town of Meaford and that seems all he is interested in, even though he tries to let the rest of us in the Municipality think differently.

The farmers might get a little money for rent of their land to have the turbine on their farm, but won't likely be able to continue to live there with the problems the turbines cause.

I am only hoping the residents of the rural area in the Municipality, (Sydenham and St. Vincent) will think when the election comes this fall, who they give their vote to. Think about the value of your property if the Mayor allows these turbines to be in the rural area. he says he doesn't want them on the beaches.

He seems to fail to realize if the Provincial Government decides to put them on the shore, he might have a real battle to try and stop them. Especially when he and our Deputy Mayor voted against Grey County, when they directed their staff to prepare a 'Wind Turbine Control Law' for the protection of residents' health. I might  say they were the only ones against it. Once again he seems to speak out of both sides of his mouth at once. There are more things this Municipality needs to be concerned about beside the Town Hall and the Town of Meaford.

It appears by the article the other Municipal Councils (our neighbouring municipalities) seem to have a concern for All of their municipality not just one part of it.

We, being the rural part of the Municipality need more honest candidates from the rural areas of Sydenham and St. Vincent. I am hoping the tax payers in the rural areas of the municipality will keep informed and take the time to attend any public meetings to object to any proposed Wind Turbine projects.

Barbara McLean, Meaford
