Reader Unhappy With Changes to Waste Collection

E-mail Print

Editor - I gave up subscribing to the Express ages ago and was delighted to happen upon your online newspaper. Since the only way that the Town of Meaford communicates to its constituents is through the Express, I was, until recently, unaware of the decision to change waste collection to every other week, and to pick up recycling every week.

What rocket scientist decided it would be a good idea to hang onto our stinking garbage for two whole weeks, especially in this hot weather? I can't even imagine much cost saving if they are driving the recycling trucks twice as much, having cut the driving time of waste trucks in half.

Reader: Georgian Beach- Be Heard!

E-mail Print

Dear Editor,

I would like to respond to the editorial of councilor Lynda Stephens dated Wednesday 30 June 2010 appearing in the Meaford Independent. In particular, I would like to indicate some facts perhaps unknown to the public at large.

The lawsuit in the beginning was an attempt by the Municipality of Meaford to join together 2 existing public rights of passage. These are the public road of North Georgian Beach and the public marine right of way of South Georgian Beach. Between these 2 roads exists a 500 foot strip of land comprised of 9 lots owned by the 9 families named in the Municipality’s lawsuit. What was at stake in the beginning was a walkway in front of these 9 property owners so that the public could pass back and forth between the 2 Beaches.

Time For Change in Municipality of Meaford

E-mail Print

Dear Editor,

The world has changed, and now too, it is time for our Municipality to change with it. Our political bar must be raised significantly. It is time to leave the local politics of the 1980’s behind.

We need to replace deceit, deception and dotage with accountability, diligence, honesty and integrity.

We need some bright young candidates. Minds that are level-headed, enthusiastic, that understand teamwork, and can get things done.

To succeed such candidates will of course need the full support of the whole Community—parents, young people, and seniors. Hopefully, younger members of the Municipality will now speak up, support, and not only take part in the upcoming election, but in the overall running of their Community.
