Reader Offers Thoughts About Issues Facing Meaford

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Editor,

All things Meaford:

Let me start by saying that my wife, children and I moved to the Meaford area some 24 years ago. This is a beautiful area and a pleasant and at times exciting rural community where we have enjoyed raising our children - we have never second-guessed that decision.

However, all things municipal began to be distasteful for me soon after amalgamation. My own suggestion for a new name (The Town of the Big Head) was flatly rejected by the council. I still feel the TBH would tie in well with the TBM and has excellent branding possibilities. Since then I have attempted to voice my concerns (and hopefully not in a nasty or spiteful way) about other issues. But most attempts at discussion have fallen onto what seems to be deaf ears.

Reader Suggests Amalgamation of all Grey-Bruce Municipalities

E-mail Print PDF

Editor,

The "sunshine" list for the Municipality of Meaford is the best reason for the amalgamation of all the municipalities in Grey and Bruce counties.

How many times are the "services" provided by these people duplicated in the two counties, and what are the combined wages of all these people?

I would guess that there are many municipalities in Ontario that are the same size as Grey and Bruce combined with wages at a far lower level than what we have to pay.

Reader Offers Thoughts on Current Council Issues

E-mail Print PDF

Editor,

The Sunshine List just came out and even Kennedy made it despite leaving without completing the year (we still do not know why and under what terms)

The CAO would have made the list but this position was shared by Miele and Morrissey. CAO makes about $135,000.

So our wizards of smart in Council and Staff just realized that a 35 year old critical back-up generator at the water treat plant isn’t working and spares are unavailable. They had not forecast its replacement earlier and had not budgeted for this!
