electric_eclectics2Electric Eclectics Festival Directors Chris Worden, Laura Kikauka and Gordon Monahan have announced more acts for the fifth anniversary edition of the festival which will take place July 30 through August 1.

HEALTH, AIDS Wolf, Let's Paint TV,  Fancie, MYTHS, Ricardo Arias, o.blaat, Friendly Rich and the Lollipop People, and a rare appearance by circuit-bending pioneer Nicolas Collins at the annual mind-bending open-air long weekend celebration of sound. There will be more acts to be announced at a later date.

HEALTH will be the headlining act on Saturday, July 31st.

Los Angeles-based HEALTH are known for noise rock and had their split single with Crystal Castles (“Crimewave”) debut at number 9 on the UK indie charts.  They have performed across Australia, Europe, and North America, and were selected to open the final three Nine Inch Nails concerts.  Widely regarded as one of the best live acts on the circuit at the moment.

AIDS WOLF are based in Montreal and are an extremely high-energy noise-punk group, favourites of Black Flag’s Henry Rollins, and can be heard as part of the soundtrack for the noted Canadian film maker Bruce LaBruce’s film “Otto”.  AIDS Wolf have toured extensively and left a trail of exhausted fans in their wake.

LET'S PAINT TV, internet celebrity extraordinaire, is returning to EE. He has appeared on both the Tyra Banks Show and America’s Got Talent (he painted David Hasselhoff's portrait!).  Also known as John Kilduff, he is the star of his own popular TV show Lets Paint TV.

FANCIE, also known as Elisabeth Wood is an avant-folk musican active in California and Berlin. Fancie was a 2008 artist in residence at the Philadelphia Institute of Advanced Study and was featured in Uli M. Schueppel’s BerlinSong documentary.

MYTHS are a new, up-and-coming electro-punk duo from Vancouver. High-energy dual female vocals from Lief Hall and Quinne Rodgers, both of whom have extensive backgrounds in visual arts. MYTHS have gained a lot of attention in a short time thanks to their wild and dynamic shows. The duo has also opened for HEALTH.

RICARDO ARIAS uses unconventional instruments and found objects as sound sources and amplifies them with piezo-electric transducers. In particular, he specializes in performances using amplified balloons.

NICOLAS COLLINS is a pioneer circuit bending musician based in Chicago. Nicolas Collins is a composer of electronic music and former student of Alvin Lucier.  He uses home made electronics, and found objects such as skipping CD players.  He is currently Editor in Chief of the Leonardo Music Journal (published by MIT Press) and Chair of the Department of Sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

o.blaat is based in Brooklyn, New York, and has performed worldwide. Also known as Keiko Uenishi, she is a core member of SHARE, has worked with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, and is known for her sound work formed through experiments in restructuring “relationships" with sounds.

FRIENDLY RICH AND THE LOLLIPOP PEOPLE are a fun mix n’ mash musical group hailing from Toronto, and are bound to keep everyone entertained.

Electric Eclectics Sound Art and Media Festival 2010 also features a film performance by the Canadian filmmaker Peter Mettler, and installations by media artists Marla Hlady, Paul Walde, Christof Migone, and the internationally known Canadian performance artist Andrew Harwood, whose alter ego Madame Zsa Zsa will dispense fortune telling and psychic readings to the audience.

The 5th annual Electric Eclectics Sound Art & Media Festival takes place on the Funny Farm near Meaford, set on top of the Big Head River Valley overlooking Southern Georgian Bay.

Camping is included with all ticket purchases.

This year's festival features multiple on-site installations, on-site workshops, DJ tent with dance area, and a film program TBA, in addition to local area exhibitions and installations running for the months of July and August.

A limited number of discounted tickets (10% discount) are available through the website.
