The Midget B Girls started the new year on a high note, winning their first game of 2012.
On January 7th, the Lightning hosted the TCDMHA Rebels at the Beaver Valley Community Centre. Both teams battled hard for the first two periods of play without a goal scored for either side.
In the third period the Lightning jumped out in front on a goal scored by Clara Phillips and assisted by Shawna Wren, and held the Rebels down to win the game, 1-0.
The next day, the Lightning travelled up the peninsula to Lion's Head to take on Bruce Peninsula Shores.
Abby Sewell put Georgian Shores on the scoreboard part way through the first period, on a goal assisted by Bailey Hume. BPS replied with a goal of their own in the second period to tie it up. Abby scored her second goal of the night, unassisted, early in the third period to put the Lightning up, 2-1. Georgian Shores held the lead and it looked like they were about to walk away with the win, when Bruce Peninsula Shores scored with under a minute left in the game. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
On January 14th, the Lightning went to Markdale to play the Shooting Stars. The Lightning were eagerly anticipating this re-match.
Nicole Hough scored the Lightning's first marker, on a pass from Bridget McMaster. The Stars battled back, trying to shut down their forward rushes and break through their defensive line. In a last attempt to tie it up, Markdale pulled their goalie to add an extra skater to their ranks. The Lightning weren't having any of this, and when Abby Sewell intercepted the puck, she took no chances and tucked it neatly inside the Markdale net. The final score was 2-0 for the Georgian Shores Lightning.
The Midget B Girls next home games are January 21st and 28th at the Beaver Valley Community Centre beginning at 4:30 pm.
