York University was host the 2012 Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, January 28th.
Two members of Meaford's Jr. Coyotes Running Club attended. Both Jared Ruest of Meaford and Hannah Woodhouse of Heathcote competed in the 15 and Under age category.
Jared Ruest took first place in both the boys 800m and 1200m events. His time of 2:11..82 minutes in the 800m was almost 2.5 seconds ahead of 2nd place as he lead the race from start to finish. In the 1200m race, Jared took the lead after 600m and didn't look back. His time of 3:35.65 was almost 4 seconds from his closest competitor.
Hannah Woodhouse began her day with the 2000m event. She patiently worked her way through the competition and with 200m to go, gave a dominant sprint to the finish. She took 2nd place in a time of 6:59.93. Less than 1 hour later, she stepped onto the track again in the 800m event. Her similar race tactics proved successful again as she caught much of the field in her last lap sprint to place 6th in a personal best time of 2:29.88.
Congratulations to both Jared and Hannah on their strong performances against many of the best runners in Ontario. This is their last indoor race of the season and will now be preparing for their high school competitions in May and June as grade 9 students of GBSS.
The Jr. Coyotes are in action again on Saturday, Feb 11 for the Bullets Indoor Track and Field Meet in Toronto at York University for the younger athletes.
