Kerri-Lynn Houde, owner and operator of the Meaford Massage Clinic recently returned to national competition after a two-decade hiatus from the Alpine Ontario Ski Team.
Last month, Kerri-Lynn won the Ontario Masters Championships that were held at Toronto Ski Club and Craigleith Ski Club. She had been the Ontario Champion for the past two years but this time she received financial assistance from Johnson and Robertson Financial and The Ontario Mortgage Store to defray some of the expenses she would incur to compete in the 2010 Canadian Masters Championships in Sun Peaks, British Columbia, a premier event on the national Masters circuit.
At age 41, Kerri-Lynn showed that she still has what it takes to excel in the three alpine disciplines of Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom. She dominated all the ladies’ events and beat a large portion of the men’s field as well. These first-rate results secured her berth on the Canadian Masters National Team for 2010-11.
The ‘gold medal girl’ who practically grew up on the slopes of Georgian Peaks may have to set her national racing projects aside for a few years to meet the growing demands of her skiing family. She hopes to rekindle her passion when her children - Connor, 9 and Kaitlyn, almost 6 - are older. That’s what her parents did and they’re still going strong!
Masters racing is a recreational program for intermediate to expert skiers aged 18 and over. These competitions also attract former racers who choose to take their fun seriously. Details at www.alpineontario.ca and www.acamasters.com
