April 22 is Earth Day, and this year The Meaford Independent has teamed up with Friends of Memorial Park to host a park clean-up day.
Friends of Memorial Park is a group of Meaford residents who participate in the care of the park by supporting the on-going green guardianship efforts of the Municipality.
This year, that support is demonstrated in several ways, and the first major activity is on Earth Day.
On April 22nd, members of the group and the broader citizenry are invited to help with a spring clean-up event at the park.
Appreciating that everyone has different time commitments, including the fact that Earth Day is on Good Friday, the time of the event is open-ended.
The Meaford Independent will be at Memorial Park from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Earth Day. We will be located at the park entrance and will be providing beverages and snacks to those that come out to help with the park clean-up.
Those wanting to participate in the event need only arrive with a pair of gloves and some trash bags- and plenty of energy and enthusiasm.
Please watch local events calendars for the dates of other summer events such as the removal of invasive plants and the removal of illegally dumped debris that is chocking out the natural under growth.
Individual members of Friends of Memorial Park contribute in many different ways to the health of the park. Some attend the work-bees, others provide landscape design expertise and others organize the related activities.
Participation is meant to feel like a spontaneous activity that is enjoyable and satisfying rather than an onerous commitment of time.
If you’re available Earth Day, Friday, April 22nd and feel moved to contribute in some way to the health of our park, please consider this your personal invitation to come and work a bit, socialize a bit and enjoy a cup of cider!
The Meaford Independent and Friends of Memorial Park welcome and value your participation.
