What Meaford Didn't See Yesterday

When the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, it can obscure our view of the Sun. Unfortunately, we Meafordites were not able to see the eclipse that occurred on July 11, 2010 at 3:34 PM.

But a group of astronomers on the mysterious Easter Island gathered to view the four minutes and forty-five seconds of total darkness at the time of the eclipse. More people in organized tours and cruises are on Easter Island and other places in the Pacific Ocean where the eclipse was visible.

There will be a documentary crew filming the eclipse for the National Geographic Channel. Their activities will be covered in a special program entitled “Easter Island Eclipse”.

The Earth receives an amazing three billion megawatts of ultraviolet , x-ray and other kinds of electromagnetic energy from the Sun each second. Twice a year, the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned so that for a few minutes, the constant stream of solar radiation is blocked.

This eclipse is part of a Saros cycle that repeats every 18 years, 11 days. This series started with an eclipse on September 19, 1541 and will end with a October 27, 2785 eclipse. Quoting astrological interpreter Brady: “This Saros Series will bring successful outcomes to long-term worries or illnesses. An issue which has worried or drained you for some time will at first seem worse and then clear, with successful outcomes.”

Dane Rudyar writes that the keynote of this eclipse’s placement that “happiness is an overtone of social integration and conformity to custom.”

The ancients saw solar eclipses as signifying times of major beginnings and affecting our lives for about two years.
