For the first time ever, the Meaford Farmers' Market is open for business in December.

Though they have traditionally ended their season on Thanksgiving weekend, this year market organizers have decided to hold three markets at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre, allowing patrons to purchase locally produced food products and crafts as part of their holiday preparations.

The first of the three markets was held this past Friday, and the remaining two are being held on Friday December 9 and 16 from 3:30 pm until 7:30 pm at the community centre.

In addition to some of the farmers' market vendors that patrons have come to know well over the last five years there will be some new vendors participating.

Rachael Chapman who in October finished second at the Dragons' Den Meaford competition will be offering her products at the special December markets, as will Barbetta Orchards, Sunnyside Honey, and The Market, formerly the 100 Mile Market.

Potter & Daughter will have a selection of pottery and jewellery which make perfect holiday gifts, and Michell Biggins will have a selection of handmade wool goods to keep you warm over the holidays.

Local artist Judy Shields is also participating in the December farmers' markets, as is Maggie's Emporium who have prepared fresh wreaths, garlands and holiday decorations.

If you are looking for some local ingredients for your holiday feast, or some last minute stocking stuffers for someone special, these special December markets are the perfect addition to your shopping destinations this holiday season.

Some space is available if you would like to participate as a vendor. Contact Jane Elzby, Market President at 519-538-2995.
