Don Evanson and his wife Katherine want to thank the community of Meaford and the surrounding area for the support they received recently when attempting to start up a hot dog vending business on a small patch of municipal property beside the infamous Meaford Apple on Sykes Street.
After appearing before council in early July where his request to establish his new business “Meaford Top Dogs” on the patch of land in question found strong resistance from one member of council, residents rallied behind the entrepreneurs by writing letters to the editors of local papers and contacting members of council.
“We would like to thank firstly the residents of Meaford and surrounding area for all your best wishes and tremendous support while we were setting up our Meaford Top Dogs vending cart business,” Evanson said in a release sent to media on Thursday.
“Secondly, thank you to the Meaford Council for accepting our proposal to operate a vending cart beside the “Big Apple” and to help promote the Municipality. In addition, a large thank you goes to Pam Fettes, Rob Armstrong and David Kennedy at the Municipality for expediting a bylaw to allow us to operate at the Market Square,” added Evanson.
The Evansons also expressed appreciation to Waverley and Martin Rice of Rice's Home Hardware for allowing them to operate their new stand beside the hardware store until arrangements with the municipality could be finalized.
Meaford Top Dogs has been operating beside the Big Apple for the last few weeks and Evanson told The Independent that business has been going well.
“Everyone who has dropped by the cart has been very supportive and happy to see a cart finally in Meaford,” said Evanson.
