Unable to Enforce "No Parking" Signs

E-mail Print PDF

no_parking_sykesStephen Vokes, Director of Operations for the Municipality of Meaford, brought forward a report to council on November 9th, requesting that a bylaw be prepared that would allow the municipality to enforce parking restrictions along a portion of Sykes Street.

The issue arose after staff had been requested by area residents to review parking concerns in the Bayfield Street to Cook Street stretch of Sykes Street.

What staff discovered when they began their review was that although there are pre-existing “No Parking” signs in the area, the signs are not covered under the current bylaw, and as a result the posted parking restrictions are not enforceable.

Vokes was unable to explain this oversight as it pre-dates his time with the municipality, however a simple amendment to the current by-law at an upcoming meeting of council will ensure that the municipality will be able to address the concerns of the area residents and businesses.
