The Municipality of Meaford once again has a By-Law Enforcement Officer.
James Marshall who is also a member of the Meaford Fire Department has been hired to perform by-law enforcement functions relating to property standards, long grass and noxious weeds, as well as fill and grading and zoning by-laws.
The position proved to be a difficult one to fill after council rejected a proposal to hire a full time By-law Enforcement Officer during the 2010 budget process and instead directed staff to hire a part time officer to carry out the duties one day per week similar.
Meaford had such a part time By-law Enforcement Officer in 2009 however that individual resigned the position late last year.
Director of Planning Rob Armstrong told The Independent that Marshall will be in the municipal office or conducting site visits on Wednesdays.
“James has some background in law enforcement and the Planning and Building staff looking forward to James performing this function,” said Armstrong.
Meaford council approved the hiring of Marshall at the July 26 meeting of council.
