Four new candidates have filed their nomination papers with the municipal clerk to run for council seats.
Rural Meaford residents Peter Vaughan and James McIntosh as well as urban residents Barb Clumpus and John Malloy all paid a visit to the municipal office this morning to formally declare their candidacy for a seat on council bringing the total number of candidate for the five seats to 12.
Clumpus who said that she will be sending out a media release on Monday told TMI that she wants to see the various processes that have been put into place by the current council are continued through to fruition.
“I want us to stay the course, we get our financial house in order, we concentrate on economic development, and we continue the efforts on behalf of the citizens to make this the very best place to live,” said Clumpus.
James McIntosh who is 30 years of age is hoping that bringing a younger perspective to council will be a benefit to the entire community.
“I think that there is a lot of work to be done and I have the experience, energy, and new ideas that can help move this municipality forward,” McIntosh told The Independent.
TMI was not present when Peter Vaughan filed his papers, but will work to gather his platform information as soon as possible.
Stay tuned to TMI throughout the day for updates leading up to the 2 pm nomination deadline.
