It was a struggle, but Meaford Councillor Lynda Stephens managed to convince her fellow members of council to pass a resolution that would direct staff to look into potential alternatives to the current waste management service delivery models.

Stephens introduced the resolution at the November 23 meeting of council, and expressed a desire to have the Director of Operations explore options as he prepares to seek bids for the various waste management contracts that expire in June of next year.

Meaford Council voted Monday night to engage a new law firm in the ongoing lawsuit with regard to the Georgian Beach Road issue.

Though it was not on the agenda released prior to the November 23 council meeting, a resolution was brought forward to secure the services of a Guelph based law firm as the case moves on to the next stage.

 

Meaford councillors considered an invitation to have a representative join the Regional Recreation Centre Steering Committee for the construction of the new athletic and recreational complex in Owen Sound.

The $32.6 million facility which will include an Olympic sized swimming pool, a fitness centre and a pair of ice surfaces, has received infrastructure grant funding of nearly $22 million.

A skeleton crew of Meaford councillors heard from a delegation Monday night that urged the Municipality of Meaford to join forces with three other municipalities to promote the southern Georgian Bay area as a regional tourist destination.
