Grey County OPP has charged a Meaford man with multiple offences following a number of driving related incidents which occurred in the town of Meaford last night, Monday, March 26, 2012.
At approximately 6:20 p.m. the man was operating his vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, on Edwin Street, Meaford, when his vehicle mounted a curb and struck the front veranda of a residence on the street.
The driver left the scene and continued operating his vehicle in an erratic and dangerous manner throughout the area. In total, the vehicle was involved in five separate collisions, causing damage to various property, including a hydro pole which caused a power outage to local residents. Luckily, no one was injured.
An off-duty OPP officer arrested the man while he was still inside his vehicle at the intersection of Denmark and Edwin Streets.
The lone driver, who was found to have been drinking, was transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment for breath tests. Test results indicated he had a blood/alcohol level of more than four (4) times the legal limit. Due to the extremely high test readings, the driver was taken to the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre in Owen Sound as a precaution. He was subsequently released back to police and returned to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment, where he was held pending a bail hearing.
