The suspect attended the Foodland store in Markdale a total of 4 times from September 4 to
The first time the suspect attended the cashier went to store management for approval to receive a cheque in payment for groceries. The suspect offered an explanation that his wallet with his identification had been destroyed in the fire at the Chapman’s Ice Cream plant and he would like to pay by cheque until his wallet and contents could be replaced. Management gave the approval initially and the man returned 3 more times and cashed three more cheques indicating that it was implied by management he could.
The cheques were returned N.S.F. and a letter written to the name and address displayed on the cheques was returned to sender. Likewise the phone number indicated was of no value. The fraud was reported when it became apparent that the information provided was false.
The suspect is described as a thin male with curly brown hair, believed to be in his late 30’s. He was accompanied by a female. They possibly left in a Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
Anyone with information that might assist in identifying the suspect is asked to contact Grey County OPP or Crime Stoppers. Constable Lisa Morgan is the investigating officer.
