E-mail Print PDF

JackLaytonMemorialMeaford residents will have an opportunity to sign a condolence book for the family of NDP Leader Jack Layton.

Layton passed away on August 22 after a battle with cancer. His passing came just 16 weeks after Layton saw his party earn 103 seats in the May 2 federal election, the best finish for the federal NDP party in their history.

The 103 seats earned by the Layton-led NDP party were enough to secure their status as the official opposition, making Layton the first NDP leader to hold the position of Leader of the Official Opposition.

Layton's death resulted in a national outpouring of of sympathy by Canadians of all political stripes.

Local NDP organizers have been making the condolence book available around the riding, and on Tuesday September 13, the book will be at Earth Harvest Cafe, 100 Sykes Street North in Meaford from 3:00 pm until 5:30 pm.

Anyone who would like to sign the condolence book is invited to attend.
