The Safe Streets and Communities Act was introduced in the House of Commons yesterday. This comprehensive legislation targets crime and terrorism and provides support and protection to the victims of crime.
This Act re-introduces the following reforms which were debated in the 40th parliament but never became law: the Protecting Children from Sexual Predators Act, the Penalties for Organized Drug Crime Act, Sebastien’s Law (Protecting the Public from Violent Young Offenders), the Ending House Arrest for Property and Other Serious Crimes by Serious and Violent Offenders Act, the Increasing Offender Accountability Act, the Eliminating Pardons for Serious Crimes Act, the Keeping Canadians Safe (International Transfer of Offenders) Act, the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act, and the Preventing the Trafficking, Abuse and Exploitation of Vulnerable Immigrants Act.
“Tabling this important crime legislation on the second day of the fall session of Parliament sends a clear message that this government is fully committed to following through with our promise to keep Canadians safe,” says Miller.
