Owen Sound- Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound is pleased to welcome the Parliamentary Committee on Palliative and Compassionate Care to Owen Sound on Monday, July 26th at the Public Health-Grey Bruce Health Unit, 101 17th St. East in Room 125 (Main Floor).
MP Harold Albrecht, Member for Kitchener-Conestoga is the co-chair of the non-partisan committee and will be in the area to gather feedback on current practices, strengths and concerns and to hear recommendations for future improvements to programs and services in the areas of Palliative Care, Elder Abuse, Suicide Prevention and Disability issues.
The Committee is gathering information from representatives across Canada over the summer months which will be studied by the Committee when Parliament resumes in the fall. Their goal will be to improve health care options available to Canadians, in the four areas of concern above.
“We are heading into an era where the greatest percentage of our population will be seniors, and we need to ensure adequate services and programs are in place to care for this mass of aging Baby Boomers,” said Miller. “We also have a responsibility to the most vulnerable in our communities and need to focus on excellence in care for those with disabilities and also reach out to those who fall through the cracks and feel their only way out is suicide, provide them with the resources they need to get back on their feet and to realize their value to those around them,” Miller added.
