Promotion for MPP Bill Walker at Queen’s Park

walker official 2013 225Local MPP Bill Walker says he welcomes his new duty of serving as the PC’s Children and Youth Services critic, announced by Opposition Leader Tim Hudak at Queen’s Park.

I welcome the promotion. I also see it as a complement to my health critic duties,” Walker says in reference to his previous post assigned after the 2011 provincial election. “Keeping our children and youth healthy is a recurring theme in any debate, and so I look forward to building on the efforts and work of my predecessor and caucus colleague, Jane McKenna.”

MPP Walker Calls on Minister to Deal With Nuisance Bears in Bruce and Grey

bear Darko SkenderThis week MPP Bill Walker called on the minister of natural resources to protect local residents from nuisance bears by bringing back the Trap and Relocation program. Walker’s statement arrives after incidents involving black bears in the riding.

During his speech at Queen’s Park, Walker also advised Minister David Orazietti that the province’s bear-siting hotline is of no use to residents when they’re confronted with a black bear.

MPP Walker Supports Call for Mental Health Committee

Local MPP Bill Walker says the government’s ongoing inaction on the developmental disabilities file is hurting constituents in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.

Walker and the PC party have been urging the governing Liberals since last May to strike a select committee to develop a strategy to help developmentally disabled Ontarians. The directive was prompted by the passing of a resolution by the PC Health Critic MPP Christine Elliott after it received all-party support at Queen’s Park.

This is what the House instructed them to do. It’s what my constituents with developmental disabilities need them to do,” Walker says. “The government cannot continue to sit on its hands any longer. It needs to strike the committee now.”

MPP Walker Tells Liberals “No Means No”

windturbine005The first week of the fall session of the Ontario legislature began with Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker pushing local issues to the forefront of debate at Queen’s Park.

Walker’s first Statement before his fellow MPPs in the Legislature was a call on the Liberal government to respect rural Ontario’s veto vote against wind turbines. He urged Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne to honour her promise and allow a moratorium in communities that have declared themselves as unwilling hosts to wind farms.
