Citing the need to re-focus on the critical challenges facing our local economy, Green Party of Ontario deputy-leader, Shane Jolley stepped down Thursday.
“The objectives for which I took the Deputy Leader position have been largely achieved over the past two years, and it is now time to re-focus on local priorities”, stated Jolley.
Those objectives included seeing the election of Mike Schreiner as the Leader of the party, the establishment of a functional operational structure, and the training of a number of candidates across the province.
“My work with the Greens has been challenging and rewarding in spite of my dislike of partisanship in politics”, said Jolley. “Now I need to turn attention to helping our local officials and citizens understand how to deal with the formidable challenges we will face over the coming years due to energy costs and other economic and social changes.”
Jolley is the founder and coordinator of The LocalMotive Project (www.localmotiveproject.com), a citizen-driven re-localization network in Bruce & Grey Counties. The Project’s focus is to educate citizens about the new economic challenges and opportunities shaping the region, to build resilience by re-skilling people, and to work toward improved forms of local/regional governance.
