Local MPP Bill Murdoch says the provincial Liberals are hard-wired to raise taxes to cover their $17-billion deficit. The MPP issued the warning during debate Monday evening at Queen’s Park on a government motion about not raising the HST.
The provincial Liberals broke a 2003 election promise not to raise taxes by introducing the Health Care Premium and again in 2007 by bringing in the HST.
More than a year ago, local MPP Bill Murdoch staked his name on fighting the HST when he staged a sit-in in the Legislature. Today, the retiring MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound is pleased to announce his party will provide immediate relief by cutting the provincial portion of the HST from energy bills.
