TMI Office Officially Open

By Stephen Vance, Editor

On behalf of myself and TMI Publisher Susanne Wussow, I would like to thank the more than 70 people who turned out on Saturday June 4 to help The Meaford Independent celebrate the opening of our new office at the corner of Sykes and Boucher Streets in Meaford.

The fantastic turnout was a humbling show of support for all of us here at The Meaford Independent, and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet with our readers, friends and family to kick start the next phase in the growth of The Independent.

Prior to cutting the ribbon to officially open the office, Meaford Mayor Francis Richardson, and Bayshore Broadcasting President Ross Kentner were both kind enough to say a few words to the crowd gathered outside of the new office.

Richardson congratulated The Independent for our continued growth noting that what started as a publication run from a home office has now grown to the point where the opening of a publicly accessible office was the next logical step to better serve the community of Meaford.

Kentner, who recently celebrated 50 years in the broadcasting and news business told the visitors that the world of media has been in a state of transition in recent years and he congratulated The Independent for having become a respected, independent source of news for the community of Meaford.

As my sons Sam and Zack helped Susanne and myself to cut the ribbon I thought of Mr. Kentner’s words, and how we have seen media transform from independently owned and operated printed newspaper organizations to include radio, television, and now internet based media outlets, and I wondered what the world of media would look like when my boys are in their adult years.

It should be an exciting and interesting journey indeed, and The Meaford Independent plans to be a part of that journey.

Our new office isn’t just a place for the TMI team to work. We have a meeting room that we will make available to volunteer community organizations who require a space to hold a meeting. There is no charge for use of the meeting space as The Meaford Independent believes that to build the best community possible, we all need to work together and help each other in whatever capacity we can.

To be able to offer space to community organizations to hold meetings is just a small way that we at The Independent can say thank you to our community for the support that has been given to us.

So our office is now open. During these summer months we will be open from 10 am until 4 pm Monday to Thursday, and we can always be contacted by phone or email. We look forward to meeting more of our readers in the coming months, and doing our part along with all of you to help make Meaford the best place to live, work and play.

Thank you to all who turned out on Saturday, and to all of you for your continued support. We at The Independent are only just getting started, we’ve got plenty of exciting surprises in the coming weeks and months.

Regards,

Stephen Vance, Editor, & Susanne Wussow, Publisher.
